What is "Lifestyle" Newborn Photography? Karen Holden Photography - Abu Dhabi Newborn Phot

There's so much terminology when it comes to different photography genres, that you can easily be forgiven for feeling confused.

"Lifestyle" Family Photography is what I specialise in. Wiki actually does quite a good job of defining it as:

"A style of portrait / people photography which aims to capture and document real-life events, situations, or milestones in an artistic manner and the art of the everyday."

For newborn photography, this translates into an approach that is very natural, fluid and authentic. I always capture families in the comfort of their own home. In my case, I only ever use natural window light, so I won't turn up armed with lights or huge props.

Importantly, for lifestyle newborn photography, the baby is is not "posed" into various positions. Rather, the parents are encouraged to keep their baby in their arms and to interact with, and hold him/her, in positions that feel totally natural. My style of photography really focuses on the special bond between the baby and the parents/siblings. I encourage everyone to get close to one another and to interact naturally as a family.

Because babies are not "posed", newborn lifestyle photography can take place at anytime. There is no rush for you to book your session in for the first couple of weeks from birth. In fact, I prefer you to schedule the session in for a time when the mother and baby have recovered a bit from birth.
